Lab inbox & result review
Record staff-entered laboratory results, track review status and keep veterinary review accountable in the Petus practice lab inbox.

On this page
The practice lab inbox tracks results entered by your team and the clinical review that follows. It is a manual results workflow. It does not currently imply an automatic feed from an external laboratory or analyser.
Enter a result in the right context
Open Lab inbox and select the correct patient when recording the item. Use the available fields to identify the result and describe what needs review. Keep the original report available in the appropriate patient record so the reviewer can check values, units, reference ranges and notes.
Check patient identity, specimen or result dates and the source report before saving. Similar patient names and multiple results from the same visit make this check particularly useful.
Entering a result records that the team has received or documented it. It does not establish that a veterinarian has reviewed it or communicated its meaning to the owner.
Track outstanding review
Use the queue's search and status filters to find results still needing attention. Open an item to review its details and activity history before acting. Check the assignee and priority so responsibility is clear.
If a result is missing, clear filters and check other result pages. Confirm that it was saved under the correct patient and practice rather than creating a duplicate immediately.
Complete the veterinary review
The clinical review action requires an approved veterinarian. Supporting staff can help with the permitted administrative work, but access to the practice alone does not authorise the clinical review.
The reviewer should check the source report and relevant patient context, document the clinical interpretation in the appropriate record, and update the review state through the lab workflow. A reviewed result and a message sent to the owner are separate events.
Where another action is needed, create or update a follow-up task with an assignee and due date. Use the Inbox for the client conversation and the clinical episode for clinical documentation.
Correct errors and resolve access problems
You can update status, priority, assignment, due date and the update note. The existing result title and source text cannot be edited through these controls. Record a clear correction in the update note and contact the responsible clinician if the original entry could be misleading. Do not mark an item reviewed merely to remove it from an outstanding-work view.
If the clinical review control is unavailable, check professional approval as well as team role. If the whole inbox is missing, ask a manager to check your role; Lab inbox is not included in the reception role.
