Clinical follow-ups & work queues
Create and assign practice follow-up tasks with priorities, due dates and activity history so work remains visible after the veterinary visit.

Follow-ups hold work that still needs a responsible person after an action or visit. Use them for a planned review, a callback or another defined next step. A signed note can describe a plan; a follow-up task makes the next action visible to the team.
Create an actionable task
- Open Follow-ups in the practice workspace.
- Select the relevant patient and category where required.
- Describe the next action clearly enough for a colleague to carry it out.
- Set its priority, due date and assignee.
- Save, then check the task appears with the intended details.
Write the action and expected outcome, rather than a vague label such as “check patient.” Keep clinical instructions in the clinical record and link the task to the correct context; a work queue is not a replacement for the signed record.
Due dates use the practice timezone. Check that timezone in settings when staff work across locations or review tasks while travelling.
Review the queue
Use search, category and status filters to find the work you need. Clear filters if an expected task is missing, and move through the available pages of results before assuming it was not saved.
Open a task to see its details and activity history. Check recent activity before contacting the client or duplicating work: another staff member may already have taken the next step.
Priority describes the team's ordering of work. It does not send a clinical response by itself. A time-sensitive issue still needs an appropriate staff member to act on it.
Assign, hand over and complete
Keep the assignee current when responsibility changes. Add enough context for the next person to understand what was done and what remains. Update the task state after the action has actually been completed.
Sending a client message and completing a task are separate actions. If a reply is still needed, use the Inbox workflow and leave the appropriate work outstanding.
Lab review is a distinct workflow
Results awaiting clinical review belong in the Lab inbox. Staff can help enter and organise a result, while the required clinical review is restricted to an approved veterinarian. A generic follow-up task should not be used to bypass that review requirement.
If you cannot assign or update a task, check your practice membership and effective role with a manager.
